HUGE DDXP 2012 Updates

As many have noticed a lot of crazy stuff and announcement today. As always DDXP is in the middle of it and bringing you the good stuff. We are proud to be the first external playtest of the next version of the game we all love so much. So if you've been on the fence you have a few weeks to hop off it and get to D&D Experience 2012 in Fort Wayne.

Please note. If you wish to swap an already purchased ticket for one to the D&D Special you can do so onsite. If you just buy additional tickets online you will not be able to return duplicates. We have TONS of tickets for this event. Just bring them and swap them onsite. Thanks

The D&D Special and Seminar area will be in a special fenced off area. You cannot enter this area without having a valid NDA on file. No exceptions. No cameras or recording equipment will be allowed without prior approval from BMG and Wizards of the Coast.

D&D Secret Special: Caves of Chaos Playtest
Join the first public playtest of the next iteration of the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game. The playtest offers players the chance to run pre-generated 1st-level characters through the Caves of Chaos, a four-hour D&D adventure. Wizards of the Coast staff will be running several tables each day. As part of the playtest, participants must sign a special non-dislcosure agreement for playtesters.

Adventure Description: For years, Castellan Keep has stood on civilization’s frontier, commanding a grand view of that dismal realm known as the Borderlands. A forlorn place, rife with monsters and terrors beyond imagining, adventurers have used this fort to seek glory and plunder in this dangerous realm, to unearth fabulous treasures and destroy foul monsters. Of all the haunts found here, none equal the Caves of Chaos in both danger and the promise of reward. Rumors abound of the wicked humanoids, the sinister monsters, and the dark priests that run amok in this dungeon. Only the most cunning and bold adventurers dare to face the dreaded caverns. Do you have what it takes to survive the Caves of Chaos?

Charting the Course: An Edition for all Editions (Thursday)
Join Mike Mearls, Monte Cook, and Jeremy Crawford as they discuss the origin for the idea to create an edition of Dungeons & Dragons that encompasses all previous editions. The designers discuss the challenges in creating compatibility and balance, as well as the exciting possibilities such a system creates. Seminar to be followed by a Q&A session.

Class Design: From Assassins to Wizards (Friday)
Designers Monte Cook, Bruce Cordell, and Robert Schwalb discuss their approach to class design, including the difficulties in creating iconic versions of the classes that speak to players of all editions. Should the cleric be more martial or more healer? Does the default ranger have an animal companion? What level of complexity should the fighter have? Seminar to be followed by a Q&A session.

Future Products and Q&A (Saturday)
Mike Mearls presents upcoming D&D products for 2012, as well as a vision for the future of Dungeons & Dragons. Seminar is followed by a Q&A session. Other members of R&D on hand to answer questions as well.

Reimagining Skills and Ability Scores (Sunday)
The role of skills has fluctuated throughout the life of Dungeons & Dragons, and ability scores have been of varying importance in each edition. Find out what the design team has done to reimagine these aspects of the game, and how they arrived at a system to marry the two concepts more closely together. Seminar includes Monte Cook, Bruce Cordell, and Robert Schwalb, and will be followed by a Q&A session.

DDXP 2012 - Dec 28th Update

One month to the show. You better have your tickets because what is left is going to evaporate here in two weeks. We have a lot of huge events and special guests this year. So make sure to follow us on twitter (@baldmangames), on Facebook (Baldman Games), or keep an eye on the website.

Registration Sets new Records

Pre-reg for D&D Experience 2012 opened one month ago tomorrow and our sales have broken all previous records. Events are selling out fast and we haven’t even announced all the cool stuff we’re doing yet. If you are on the fence it’s time to hop off if you want to get into some of the hottest and coolest events of the year.

Special Guests

We’ve updated our Special Guests page with even more goodness. The full Wizards of the Coast staff attending the show are now listed (including the Senior Manager of R&D Mike Mearls).

Miranda Horner has rounded out our freelancer first class category along with Monte Cook and Robert Schwalb. Steve Townshend and Matt James are tagging along as well for the hottest writers group outside of the Midwest (okay I guess Steve lives in the Midwest).

Event Highlights

We’ve updated our events page with some old school (and not so old school) events being written and run by some of our judges at the show. They are also added to the ticketing system. Get them now as these are small individual tables that will sell out quickly.

D&D Experience 2012 - Nov 28th Update - Pre-Reg Open Soon

Two months to the show. Can you feel the excitement yet?  We have a lot of huge events and special guests this year. Starting today we’ll be blasting out weekly updates on Monday updating you on the show and slowly trickling out all the cool things we have planned. So make sure to follow us on twitter (@baldmangames), on Facebook (Baldman Games), or keep an eye on the website.

Registration Opens – November 29th

Pre-reg for D&D Experience 2012 opens at 8pm on Tuesday, November 29th. Tickets for high demand events will go fast so make sure to have your wish list ready and your mouse hand stretched and ready. Remember that all attendees need a badge. So if you are buying tickets for your group remember to get enough badges as well.

We will continue to add new events as we approach the show from independent judges running their own adventures. Those will be announced in these weekly updates as they happen. We have several judges running 1st edition D&D adventures or updating them to 4th edition. So keep your eyes open.

Special Guests

We’ve been hinting at some big names this year for our special guests and to kickoff our first weekly update we’ll let one of the biggest ones out of the gate right now. Monte Cook will be attending D&D Experience this year as a seminar panelist and judge for the special D&D Wotc event. So your ticket to this sweet event might just get a little bit sweeter when Monte sits down to run your group through it.

Monte has worked as a professional writer and game designer since 1988. He has published two novels, numerous short stories, countless articles, and a comic book series for Marvel. Monte was also one of the three principal designers of 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons and the d20 system. His d20 game design studio, Malhavoc Press, produced award-winning products like Monte Cook’s Arcana Evolved, Ptolus, and the Books of Eldritch Might. Monte has worked on games such as D&D, Champions, Rolemaster, and more. He also created HeroClix, D20 Call of Cthulhu, and Monte Cook’s World of Darkness. He is a graduate of the Clarion West Writer's Workshop and his recent nonfiction book is A Skeptic’s Guide to Conspiracies.

Currently, he is working with Wizards of the Coast to explore new options with D&D, writing a monthly fiction series in Game Trade Magazine, a quarterly game column in Kobold Quarterly, and a weekly column on the Wizards' website. He is also the co-host of the upcoming Geek Seekers web series.

Event Highlights

ADCP4-1 City of Destinies: The city of Myth Nantar is the center of the sea elves' society. Although it once rested entirely beneath the waves of the Sea of Fallen Stars, the changes wrought by the Spellplague exposed Myth Nantar's upper levels to the air. Now the sea elves and the surface races mingle and trade freely here, protected from their enemies by ancient elven high magic. Thanks to the mythal, the citizens of Myth Nantar need not fear the threat of the Abolethic Sovereignty. Or so they believe. A TWO-ROUND continuous-play Living Forgotten Realms Battle Interactive for characters of the Heroic and Paragon tiers (levels 1-20). This adventure lasts for 10 hours of real time, including breaks, from start to finish. Please make sure you schedule enough time to stay for the entire event. It is recommended (but not required) that you play SPEC4-1 or SPEC4-2, as appropriate for your character level, before playing this adventure. This adventure is combat-intensive and the battles are designed to be more difficult than those in a standard LFR adventure. You will need good resource management, strong teamwork, and a bit of luck to succeed.
